Hi Dan, re: > Yeah that certainly gives me what I'm looking for! I appreciate it! No worries. > One quick question though, looking at the Level 3 NIDS data on the site > I see most of the files (N0R specifically) are about 12-14kb in size. > When downloading directly from the NWS tgftp server, these files are > about 24kb each. Why the difference? We don't have any idea why the files are differently sized. The Nexrad Level III images available on motherlode are what we received in the NOAAPORT broadcast and are unaltered in any way. > It makes me wonder if I need to > change my scripts to pull the data from motherload and save some > bandwidth. If you are in need of a continuous feed of these data, we would MUCH rather that you install an LDM at your site and get the products you need through the IDD. Access to data on motherlode is intended to be episodic, not continuous. In the past, users who have setup cron-driven scraping of motherlode have caused large performance problems. One user in particular was checking to see if there were any changes to GEMPAK decoded data files each minute and FTPing the new version if there was. Since point data files are written to semi-continuously, this cause a huge number of transfers and LOTS of log file entries. The problem was bad enough that we were forced to turn off all access by that user. Getting a continuous feed by the LDM/IDD nicely solves the problem for us and would get you the data in near realtime!
