The display template is actually a xidv bundle with no data associated. In general, the display in the bundle is linked to a view window. But, we may want to reconsider it in this situation. The temporary solution for you is to close all the none active window before generate the display template. Or, you can edit the bundle in the .unidata directory, remove the three line associated with the "defaultView" property (I prefer this editing option). I will check with Don next week for a better solution.
