20001025: FW: FOS/NOAAPORT NOTICE NO. 1814

>From: "Batson, Bryan" <address@hidden>
>Organization: JSFC
>Keywords: 200010252007.e9PK7r429975 NOAAPORT NIDS

Bryan,

>FYI...I am guessing this means that Jan 1, 2001 is now a firm date for the
>start of unencrypted radar products.

Yup.

>Unfortunately, this message doesn't have any details on what will change (if
>anything) in the NWSTG stream.

In general? The change is that the NIDS products will stop being encrypted
and will start being compressed using zlib.

I will be adding zlib uncompression to my NIDS server at the end of
November. I should then be ready to go.

>I am assuming that they will turn of encryption on 1/1/2001,

Yes.

>but as usual, details are scarce with the NWS.

They do have this information on one of their web pages somewhere.
