The file "make.log" contained the following:

cc -shared -L/usr/local/lib64 NetCDF.o -o blib/arch/auto/NetCDF/NetCDF.so
\
   -L/usr/local/NETCDF-3.6.2/lib -lnetcdf \

/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-suse-linux/4.1.0/../../../../x86_64-suse-linux/bin/ld:
/usr/local/NETCDF-3.6.2/lib/libnetcdf.a(putget.o): relocation R_X86_64_32S
against `a local symbol' can not be used when making a shared object; recompile
with -fPIC
/usr/local/NETCDF-3.6.2/lib/libnetcdf.a: could not read symbols: Bad value
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

I suspect that the netCDF library wasn't compiled with the "-fPIC"
option. I'm afraid that you'll have to rebuild the netCDF library
using that option before you can build the netCDF-Perl module.

Steve Emmerson
