wshr function

Hello,
Can anyone tell me why gddiag needs a 'TMPK' grid to calculate the vertical wind shear of a layer?

GDFILE  = wind.grd
GDOUTF = wind.grd
GFUNC  = wshr(wnd)
GDATTIM = 990101/0000
GLEVEL  = 200:850
GVCORD = PRES
GRDNAM = wshr
GPACK
GDDIAG > r
[DG -7] Input grid TMPK ^990101/0000 @200 %PRES in WSHR cannot be found.

The grid file contains U and V winds at 200 and 850 mb. Thanks.

Chris
