You can get a function version of netcdf on anonymous ftp from nevado.srcc.lsu.edu. The fortran jacketing did not build as the linux f77 compiler is actually the ATT fortran to C translator and was not complete enough to handle the fortran in the netcdf package. All tests passed besides those and I am actively using linux with netcdf. d wilensky
