You need to make sure the system can find libGoesRetrieval.so by adding
the appropriate directory to your LD_LIBRARY_PATH

Something like this should work:

        cd visad/paoloa
        LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:`pwd`
        export LD_LIBRARY_PATH

Or, if you're using 'csh':

        cd visad/paoloa
        setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH $LD_LIBRARY_PATH\:`pwd`
