Were they compile problems or runtime Exceptions? Did you try running from the visad.jar that contains precompiled classes? Your problem may only be a CLASSPATH problem or something simple like that. Where did you get your Java? Looking on www.apple.com I found a JDK 1.1.8 but not a JDK 1.2 - VisAD requires JDK 1.2, also known as Java 2.
