Hi Jim, > If you have used VisAD on a Sun Ultra/10, 60, or 80 platform > (Solaris 7 or 8) using the Elite3D or Creator3D graphics accelerators, > I would be pleased to hear your critique of the performance > observed and/or the problems encountered. > > Is the Elite3D clearly preferable over the Creator3D insofar as > VisAD based applications/applets are concerned? We have lots of Creator3D machines at SSEC, and I have used Elite3D machines for giving VisAD demos in Sun booths at IEEE Vis and JavaOne. We run mostly Solaris 2.6 (e.g., 6) here, but I assume the machines in Sun's booth have more recent Solaris versions. The Elite3D machines are significantly faster than the Creator3D machines. Hopefully other people have more detailed experiences to relate. Cheers, Bill ---------------------------------------------------------- Bill Hibbard, SSEC, 1225 W.
