Don; Thxs for the reply. Bill mentioned > and your 'jar' command must be at least JDK 1.2. Apparently the jar command that comes with Redhat 6.2 is not JDK 1.2. There is not a "which version" option and no man or info page or HOWTO for this command. Installing the JDK 1.2 fixed the problem.
