Hi Don... Just a brief comment:
Some users still have problems with the OpenGL drivers for certain cards. ATI has pretty lousy OpenGL support for mobile cards.
My home HP laptop uses an ATI card (XPRESS 200M with 128MB memory) and I could not be happier with the 3D performance when using the IDV and OpenGL. I should also add that I now experience very few problems with my TP R40 at work since opting in for the latest video drivers.
